Hairbags are a collection of fantastical handbags that, like much of my other designs, approach the somatic and the sexual in a playful and humorous way. The Hairbags take aesthetic language from puppets, mascots, and other furry children’s characters to imbue the mature topic of body-relationships and the oft-taboo subject of an individual’s sexuality with their humor and lightheartedness. Kinks such as hair-pulling and BDSM as well as sexual organs and chest hair are utilized in my Hairbags to prompt conversation and acknowledgement of what society hides as taboo. In an unexpected light, this fuzzy-plush-aesthetic already meshes well with certain styles of fetish wear that have emerged from the American-taboo into common subjects/styles utilized in pop culture including: latex, leather bondage, certain body piercings, and fursuits.  At this conceptual intersection of plush-cartoonishness and fetishwear lies the fascinating phenomena of fur rave-wear. Many trends in streetwear and even high fashion have originated in this club environment where the socially-limited scope of sexy-costume meets the broader public eye. This context of the club or rave is where my Hairbags live. The Hairbags are for people who dress for life like life is a performance. They are for those who are comfortable and public in their individuality where most would be uncomfortable.
